The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has resolved 528 complaints against Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) and secured refunds worth over ₦26m.
The agency said it received 556 complaints against IKEDC between January and September 2026, of which 528 have been resolved, with 28 still ongoing. They facilitated credit adjustments and refunds totalling ₦26,243,758.75 for the affected customers, representing a resolution rate of approximately 95 per cent.
The General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting consumers’ rights and promoting fairness, transparency, accountability and improved service delivery in the electricity distribution sector.
Speaking on the intervention, the Head of LASCOPA’s Complaints and Mediation Department, Yusuf Musiliu, explained that the agency analyses and addresses complaints received through its online and offline channels through mediation.
He noted that the agency’s monthly stakeholders’ parley is an opportunity for Ikeja Electric officials and affected consumers to discuss grievances, reach agreements and resolve disputes amicably.
Musiliu urged consumers experiencing challenges with electricity services to follow established complaint procedures rather than resorting to self-help. He also advised them to provide supporting documents, including electricity bills, payment receipts and other relevant evidence, when filing complaints to aid investigations and ensure timely resolution.
He shared that the stakeholders’ parley between LASCOPA and Ikeja Electric holds on the last Thursday of every month, encouraging consumers to report issues such as billing disputes, estimated billing, overbilling, electricity supply challenges and other unfair practices.
This intervention comes amid growing complaints from consumers, who have, in recent months, taken to social media to express their frustration and even staged protests over the persistent outages and disparities in power distribution across service bands.
Established under the Consumer Protection Agency Law, Cap 13 of the Laws of Lagos State, 2014, LASCOPA is tasked with protecting consumers against substandard, fake and unsafe products, as well as unsatisfactory services across Lagos State.
Residents seeking assistance or wishing to report complaints can contact the agency through its toll-free helpline, 080 0005 2726, available on weekdays, or via email at lasgcopa@gmail.com.
