The Man City boss has made it clear that his striker, Erling Haaland has not hit his prime yet.
Guardiola made this statement after the striker put two behind Leeds United goalkeeper on Tuesday.
The Man city coach believes Haaland is a threat to every team at the moment but he is not at his best yet.
Guardiola said: “I’m so upset with the chances he missed! Catching Alan Shearer’s record is impossible! We’re delighted for how humble he is. Given the reputation he has and how tall he is, but his character is completely the opposite. He’s an exceptional guy with a very high work ethic. It’s a great threat for the opponent having him there.”
“It’s job done. The second half was even more difficult than the first! We were exceptional in the first half but we wasted opportunities… but we didn’t concede a single chance against a side who has caused problems for Liverpool and Chelsea.
“It’s a big compliment for the guys after the World Cup. The two performances since coming back, against Liverpool [in the Carabao Cup] and today have been great.”
Guardiola on Grealish Mentality
Jack Grealish grabbed two assists against Leeds. Haaland’s brace came from Grealish assist. He had a good performance but Guadiola insisted he had to score goals.
The Man city coach suggested an improved mentality for Grealish. He said an improved mentality will be a panacea to unlocking his goal scoring form.
Guardiola on Grealish: “He got two assists but of course he has to score goals. The chances are there and it’s a question of mentality. We’ve seen in the training sessions he has the ability to put the ball into the net. He’s not a striker but he has the ability to do it. He can’t have any negativity in his mind.”
Five points behind Arsenal, Man city are back to the second place.
The title is still wide open and it will be keenly contested perhaps until the final match day.
