The heavy rains and extreme floods this season have disrupted many plans, especially for 9-to-5ers who already plan to be outdoors during the weekends.
It could be a brunch date getting cancelled, or a paintball game being postponed, and you are stuck at home, spending hours listening to the heavy downpour.
But a weekend at home does not have to feel like time lost. It can also be a chance to slow down, recharge and finally get around to the things that often get pushed aside during a busy week.
Here are five activities to make the most of a rainy weekend indoors.
- Finish or Start That Book
If you’ve been meaning to read more but never seem to find the time, a rainy afternoon offers fewer distractions. Whether it’s a novel that’s been sitting on your shelf for months or a new release you’ve been curious about, settling down with a book can be a welcome break from constant screen time.
- Try a New Recipe

Rainy weather often encourages people to spend more time in the kitchen. It could be recreating a favourite restaurant meal, trying a recipe you’ve saved online, or experimenting with something completely different. Even if it doesn’t turn out perfectly, you’ll have learned something new.
- Have a Movie Marathon

Rather than endlessly scrolling through streaming platforms, pick a film series, revisit an old favourite or finally watch the show everyone has been talking about. Add a few snacks, and you’ve recreated the cinema experience without leaving the house.
- Declutter Your Space
There is rarely a right time to organise your wardrobe, clear out the cupboard or tidy your room. A rainy weekend can provide the uninterrupted hours needed to tackle those small tasks that are easy to postpone but satisfying to complete.
- Catch Up on Sleep

Busy work schedules, long commutes and late nights often mean sleep is the first thing many people sacrifice. If the weather has forced you to cancel your plans, consider using the extra time to rest. A slower weekend can leave you feeling more refreshed than one spent rushing from one activity to another.
Not every weekend has to be packed with outings to feel worthwhile. Sometimes, an unexpected change of plans is a reminder to pause, recharge, and enjoy the simple pleasures often overlooked during the week.
