Following a military coup in Gabon, Rwanda and Cameroon have made significant changes in their defense establishments. 

The Rwandan Defence Force (RDF) retired 12 generals and 83 military personnel in a move to restructure their military. 

Netizens have reacted to the sudden action by the Rwanda government, many are making gist of them that they are scared following what happened in Gabon recently.

Cameroon reshuffle their defence 

Meanwhile, Cameroon’s President Paul Biya has reshuffled his country’s Ministry of Defence.

 These actions are seen as responses to the recent events in Gabon. The RDF has also announced promotions and appointments to replace the retired officers, effective immediately. 

This comes as Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, in power since 2000, continues to make changes within the military. Additionally, Rwanda’s Chief of Defence Staff held discussions with the UAE and Cameroon to enhance defense cooperation.

Army officers in Gabon announces coup after Bongo’s third re-election

In another news, The military officers in Gabon took over power in the country shortly after President Alli Bongo was re-elected for a third term in office.

Gabon who has been in power for 14 years was re-elected for the third time on Saturday with 64.27 percent of votes cast.

Following this, Gabonese military officers annulled the results of the election as they shared that they were dissolving “all the institutions of the republic,” BBC reported.
