The Chairperson of Ikeja Local Government, Mrs. Fausat Temitope Dauda, has reaffirmed the council’s commitment to the welfare of elderly residents during the distribution of food items and relief packages to senior citizens in the local government area.
The event, held at the Marriage Registry Hall, Ikeja Local Government Secretariat, brought together elderly residents, political leaders, community stakeholders, and council officials in a show of support for senior citizens in Ikeja.

Speaking at the event, Dauda described the initiative as more than just a relief programme, noting that it reflects the government’s responsibility to care for elderly residents who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of the community.
“It is with great joy and a deep sense of responsibility that I welcome you all to this important occasion, a gathering dedicated to honouring and supporting some of the most respected members of our community, our elderly citizens,” she said.
According to the Chairperson, the true measure of any society lies not only in its achievements but also in how well it supports vulnerable groups, especially senior citizens.

“Our elderly citizens carry with them decades of wisdom, sacrifice, and service. Many of the values, institutions, and communities we benefit from today were shaped by their dedication. Therefore, supporting them is not an act of charity alone. It is an expression of gratitude, respect, and our shared humanity,” Dauda stated.
She added that the Accord administration remains committed to policies and programmes that promote inclusion, improve quality of life, and support vulnerable residents across Ikeja Local Government.
The relief distribution programme, she explained, is part of the council’s efforts to ensure that governance positively impacts the lives of residents in practical and meaningful ways.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Mrs. Dauda assured the elderly residents that they remain an important part of society and that their welfare would continue to receive the attention of the local government.

“To our beneficiaries, we want you to know that you are valued, appreciated, and remembered. You remain an important part of our society, and your well-being will continue to receive attention,” she said.
She also commended political leaders, community stakeholders, council staff, and other individuals whose contributions made the programme possible.
According to her, the collective efforts of all stakeholders continue to strengthen the relationship between government and residents in Ikeja.

Dauda expressed hope that the food items and relief packages distributed would provide comfort and support to the beneficiaries while serving as a symbol of care and respect for elderly citizens.
The initiative forms part of Ikeja Local Government’s ongoing social welfare programmes aimed at improving the well-being of vulnerable groups and fostering a more inclusive community.

As conversations around elderly care and social welfare continue across Lagos, many residents have commended the local government for recognising and supporting senior citizens.
