On Thursday, explosives rocked the Abuja train en route Kaduna as a terrorist attack with gun fire.Former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, who was on board stated on his twitter that it “took a miracle” for him and other passengers on the train to escape.
Sanni added that terrorists shot at the train on Wednesday in a separate attack.
He said: “Yesterday, terrorists attacked the Kaduna Abuja railway with an explosive & opened fire on the train, targeting the Engine Driver & the Tank,”
“This morning, I was on board when our train ran over another explosive [and it] damaged [the] rail. It took a miracle for us to escape.”
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) while confirming the detonation of explosives by unknown gunmen on the Abuja-Kaduna railway on Wednesday night said the rail tracks have been damaged and efforts are ongoing to restore service on the route.
The Managing Director of the corporation, Fidet Okhiria, said the explosives damaged the rail tracks around Dutse and Rijana in Kaduna.
The NRC have begun investigation into the cause of the explosion that left passengers on the train stranded in the bush for about six hours.
