Robbed!’ – Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher claims Messi didn’t deserve Ballon d’Or

Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher has playfully suggested that Erling Haaland, who’s had a good season, will likely experience the same sense of being “robbed” as he did in 2005 when Haaland contests the Ballon d’Or, despite his achievements in the Champions League.

Carragher, known for his heroic performance in Liverpool’s legendary comeback against AC Milan in Istanbul, finished joint 20th in the 2005 Ballon d’Or rankings, tied with Cristiano Ronaldo.

That year, the award went to Ronaldinho, with Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard in second and third places.

2023 Ballon d’Or

The 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony, set to recognize the game’s finest player, is expected to feature Haaland and Lionel Messi as the frontrunners.

Messi is the favorite, even though Haaland played a crucial role in Manchester City’s treble and secured an unforgettable World Cup win with Argentina.
