The Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) has directed internet service providers (ISPs) operating around Ilasan, Ikate and Allen Avenue in Ikeja to clean up and secure their telecommunications infrastructure before enforcement operations.

In a recent notice, the agency said the directive applies to ISPs operating in Ilasan, Ikate, Allen Avenue, Ikeja, and the Custom Office area off Toyin Street, Ikeja.

LASIMRA instructed providers to ensure that cables and associated installations are properly arranged, secured and cleared of obstructions or environmental nuisance.

The agency warned that enforcement operations would commence next week, and advised affected service providers to complete the required cleanup before then to avoid possible sanctions.

The notice called on ISPs within and around the affected locations to give the directive “the necessary attention” and cooperate with the agency.

LASIMRA is responsible for regulating and maintaining utility infrastructure across Lagos State, including telecommunications cables laid along public roads and other spaces. Fibre-optic cables carry data and voice traffic, but poorly secured or abandoned cables can obstruct walkways and create safety concerns.

Its directive follows earlier efforts by the agency and telecoms stakeholders to address improperly deployed telecommunications cables and improve public safety and the urban environment.

Just last month, LASIMRA directed telecommunications and fibre-optic service providers to fix sagging cables along parts of Ikeja Government Reserved Area (GRA), warning that failure to comply could attract regulatory penalties.
