Wizkid FC & Davido 30BG: A Clash Unresolved

There is Davido; leader of the 30 Billion Gang, occasional giver of millions, viral video creator with over 7 million followers. And then, there is the Machala; Wizkid, the initiator of the ‘Everywhere stew’ phrase, president of the Wizkid FC, with over 6 million people following him.

It is one fact that their fans banter everyday. The weirder thing is it seems both artiste are even cool with it, afterall, it keeps them as subject matter of major discussions on the bird app. Once, Wizkid FC seized the opportunity to drag Davido when Ckay surpassed him and became the 4th most streamed African artist on Spotify. The fuel to the fire was that Wizkid was comfortably sitting on the Number 1 spot with almost 5 billion streams.

Like most rivalry, it started from somewhere. There was a silent hostility among the duo, until 2017, when they started directing shade tweets to each other. Eventually, Twitter became the battleground, with their fans as calvary, infantry, artillery, and other parts of the superstars’ army.

Throw shades everyday. Compare wins and losses. Mock every move. A typical Davido fan would say: “They troll Davido everyday, so we return the favor.” A staunch member of Wizkid FC declared that Davido’s carriage, and bragging nature is what fuels the animosity.

However, the friendship between the duo is what keeps Nigerians confused. In October 2019, Wizkid drained whatever bad blood he had and congratulated Davido on the birth of his first son, Ifeanyi. Early this year, the two singers were seen in a club embracing themselves, an act which generated lots of reactions from Nigerians on Twitter. Just last week, ‘Don’t Dull’ and ‘Tease Me,’ hit songs owned by Wizkid thrilled the crowd during Davido’s O2 Arena show. And, iamskynijayy, a Twitter user wrote: “See wetin David take mature pass kid.”

Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade. Phyno and Olamide. Kendrick Lamar and J-Cole. Messi and Ronaldo. Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. Comparisons come, and comparisons go. For Davido and Wizkid, there might be peace between the two superstars but not for their fans. And with the increasing toxicity on social media, (notably Twitter); it remains a clash unresolved.

  1. I think in the music scene, percieved conflict between artistes give people something to talk about. With stan culture especially, we see groups forming out of a common, sometimes obsessive love for an artiste. Any criticism directed towards the artiste is a seen as a threat to them. Also, any win for an artiste is seen as a win for them. Kinda like football fan behaviour. Thus the dynamics of group psychology/in-group favoritism/outgroup derogation play a role in the clashes that exist now and the clashes to come in future

  2. Irrespective of all the circumstances, I’m glad they were able to reconcile… Hopefully other artists with similar clash can put aside their difference and reconcile as well.

  3. There was never a bad blood between these artists, fans keep bringing up unnecessary agruement about them. Honestly fans haven’t been helpful at all especially when it comes with comparison. Anyways if you talk about my favs anyhow I will bash your fav too that’s how it works though
But people needs to slow down the hate somethimes. Both parties are good at what they do but they both speak different languages people should understand that.

  4. I really don’t see why people are surprised about the recent relationship between Davido and Wizkid, i mean come on, are they supposed to be enemies forever. In all i am glad they have finally settled their issues.
