President Muhammadu Buhari has stated on Wednesday that he has done his best for Nigeria as its leader for almost 8 years.
He said this while welcoming Sheikh Al-Mahfoudh Bin Bayyah, the Secretary-General of Abu Dhabi and Bob Roberts, a US Ambassador in Washington on Wednesday.
“We are big in size and population, facing many challenges, but in many areas, we are trying. In seven-and-a-half years, I have done my best,” the president said.
Buhari also stated that his focus is on the youths who he believes are solving their country’s many challenges with creativity and technological innovation.
He admonished in his speech that it is important to raise the younger generation to have good religious beliefs devoid of extremism and bigotry.
“Your work is very important in helping, especially the youth, to understand one another and at the same time, to be proud of their heritage.
“This great initiative by you will help future generations to plan well and live together in peace. On our part, we’ll continue to solve our problems, especially as they relate to the youths.”
The secretary general of Abu Dhabi used the opportunity to state the reason for his visit. He said he has come to invite President Buhari to an evening of awards on December 20 where he will be celebrated for his contributions to peace and security.
Bin Bayyah also said that the award will be given to the Nigerian president by the Abu Dhabi Foundation.
