Following the controversies between the Federal and state government on the collection of Value added Tax (VAT), the Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday passed the VAT bill to enable the state government collect its VAT rather than the Federal Government.

Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa has also directed the Acting Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, to present a clean copy to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for assent.

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) had also insisted it would collect the juicy taxes despite contrary judicial pronouncement in anticipation of obtaining a stay of execution.

According to a report the bill had on Monday scaled the second reading as well as the Anti-Open Grazing Bill, banning open grazing in all parts of Lagos.

Addressing the issue of grazing, founder of the Trinity House, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo on Thursday said the Federal government should focus more on infrastructural investment than grazing bills.

Ighodalo said: “Cattle grazing is the issue in our national discourse in 2021. We are still dealing with cultural issues of the 18th century. We need a ministry of artificial intelligence, technology, research where people would research into making life easier and better for people. Things will remain this way if we all do not get involved in 2023 and let our mind tell us what is good for us all and not elect the same people.”
