Eight Nigerian-Americans have been voted into the legislative seats in the U.S midterm election in Georgia. In a tweet, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, a Nigerian politician and former member of the House of Representatives, congratulated the new lawmakers. This is another proof that Nigerians in diaspora are doing well. Here is the list of the newly-elected lawmakers.
Segun Adeyina
Adeyina from the Democratic Party contested to represent District 110 in the Georgia House of Representatives and won. While campaigning, he promised to ensure that there is a legislation that addresses voting rights by providing all eligible Georgians access to an equitable, efficient and secure voting process.
“I want to protect reproductive choice in Georgia and ensure women have their rights respected. I will also spend time in making sure our children, upon graduating from high school, have the skills that will make them employable and create an environment to encourage companies to invest in Georgia by provide more job opportunities.”
“I want to expand Medicaid to lower the cost of health care and protect our hospital system, and work on providing tax relief for Georgians.”
Gabe Okoye
The electorate voted Okoye into the house to represent District 102 of Georgia State and fulfil his mandate.
“I am in this race because of my burning desire to give back to a country that has been so good to me, not out of mere ambition. America made me, and I have cherished every opportunity to help others realize their American Dreams too.”
Solomon Adesanya
Adesanya is now the state representative for District 43. He will work on his manifesto to focus on economic development, quality public education, expansion of Medicaid, protecting women’s right to choose, and preserving the state’s climate.
“I am committed to working tirelessly to provide immediate and long-term solutions to my constituents and every Georgian.”
Tish Naghise
Following her victory at the polls, Naghise will now represent District 68 in the Georgia House of Representatives. She will now work towards her promise to work with her team on the strategy to combat climate change in the Metro Atlanta area.
Phil Olaleye
“A lot has changed in the last two years. As the Executive Director of an education non-profit and President of Summerhill’s neighborhood organization, I have seen the barriers facing families up close — lack of access to educational opportunity, economic security, and quality healthcare.”

Join me to continue the fight for the great residents of House District 59 and all Georgians.”
After declaring this to the people he has been voted in to represent District 59 in Georgia State House of Representatives to make it happen.
Carol Kazeem
Kazeem beat Ruth Moton in the just concluded election and is now representing the 159th Pennsylvania Legislative District.
Esther Agbaje
The Nigerian-American attorney and member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party has been reelected as the representative of District 59B in Minnesota. This district includes the north and downtown Minneapolis in Hennepin County.
Oye Owolewa
The Democratic Party member was also reelected as the shadow representative of the United States from the District of Columbia.
