The Nigerian entertainment industry has been plunged into morning following the death of popular event compere and comedian, Peteru.
Born Oluwatobi Owomoyela, the Ibadan-based comedian was reported to have passed away on Thursday, December 22, following a battle with lung cancer.
A family statement released on Thursday described Peteru’s death as devastating and called for privacy as they “grieve and mourn this huge loss.”
“The Owomoyela family regrets to announce the death of Oluwatobi ‘Peteru’ Owomoyela who until his death was a loving son, father, husband, brother, uncle and comedian extraordinaire. Peteru died in the Early hours Of THURSDAY, 22ND DECEMBER 2022. The entire family is devastated and all we can ask for at this time is for the public to kindly allow the family to grieve and mourn this huge loss,” the statement read.
Burial details, according to the family, will be communicated to the public “in due course” as they sought prayers from the deceased’s fans and his colleagues in the entertainment industry.
