Nana Akua and LGBTQ activist Sam Dowler engaged in a fiery debate on GB News over Nike’s decision to sponsor Mulvaney, Akua argued that Mulvaney ridiculed women while Dowler defended her, and said that Mulvaney just did her job.
Sam Dowler also pointed out that Mulvaney has 12 million followers, with a majority of them being women who could potentially purchase Nike’s products. Fellow panelist Lizzie Cundy did not agree with that, and said that Nike was erasing women.
After Dowler used the term “cis woman” during their debate, Nana reacted angrily and warned him not to use the term again, threatening to eject him from his chair if he did.

Nike gets dragged again
Despite criticism from notable figures such as Sharron Davies and Caitlyn Jenner, Nike still decided to use a transgender influencer to promote its female clothes, calling on customers to “be kind and inclusive.”
They have partnered with a trans star in the past, with its 2021 “Play New” campaign featuring Mara Gomez, who plays in Argentina’s professional football league.
However, ex-Team GB athlete Sharron Davies criticized Nike’s decision to sponsor Mulvaney, saying that it represented a “step back” after several sports bodies opted to give biological women their own protected category in competitions.
In response to the backlash, Nike stated, “You are an essential component to the success of your community. We welcome comments that contribute to a positive and constructive discussion.” The company added that it would delete hate speech, bullying, or other behaviors that are not in the spirit of a diverse and inclusive community.
