Esther Onyenezide is arguably the new kid on the block in women’s football in Nigeria.

The 19-year-old announced herself to the globe during the women’s U20 World.Cup held in Costa Rica.

The Robo FC Queens attacking midfielder scored three goals in four matches but could not help Nigeria progress beyond the quarter finals stages after the Falconets were defeated by the Netherlands.

However, Onyenezide’s eye-catching performances was not taken for granted as she was quickly drafted into the Super Falcons squad by Randy Waldrum.

And was among the team that played the double header friendlies against the United States but did not feature in the two losses.

However, she made full debut in the recent 2-0 loss to another footballing power house Japan, when she came in as a second half substitute.

Esther has excellent dribbling skills, speed, attacking flair and she is full of power with her left-foot.

She scored one of the goals of the tournament at the U20 World Cup with her favourite foot during Nigeria’s 1-0 win over South Korea in the group stage.

Onyenezide is favoured to walk in the footsteps of two Nigeria’s biggest superstars, Asisat Oshoala and Rasheedat Ajibade in the coming years.

Nigeria has been grouped alongside hosts, Australia, Canada and the Republic of Ireland at next year’s World Cup.

And the young lad will.be looking to make Waldrum’s final.23-man squad to the biggest women’s football showpiece in 2023.
