Tears as three burnt to ashes, others injured in Abeokuta tanker explosion

About three persons, a mother and her daughter were reportedly burnt to ashes and scores sustained injuries in a tanker explosion at railway crossing, Lafenwa, Abeokuta, Ogun State on Sunday morning.

The incident occured when the supposed owner of a fuel laden tanker which overturned at a railway level crossing in Lafenwa brought another tanker to offload the contents which ignited fire leading to several shops destroyed.

An eyewitness confirmed that a mother and her daughter were among the victim who got burnt to ashes.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the spokesperson for Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps ( TRACE), Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the tanker was engulfed in fire due to the uncooperative attitude of people around the axis who were scooping fuel and other unwholesome act after the tanker fell.

Akinbiyi explained that the tanker, due to an axle problem overturned around 4 :45 am while making its way inbound Rounder from Oju-Irin, Lafenwa, spilling its content on the road.

However, he advised the general public to vacate the vicinity, adding that TRACE, police, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Fire Service are all on ground to put the situation under control.

He said: “public going inward Rounder axis from Lafenwa, should use Olomore and Oke-Ata axis respectively as alternative routes, since traffic has been diverted away from the area of incident.
