The eagerly awaited judgment on the case involving the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has been scheduled for December 15, 2023.

This announcement was made by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on Thursday after the conclusion of final submissions by legal representatives of both the federal government and Kanu.

In an earlier ruling, the Court of Appeal had dismissed the charges of treasonable felony against Kanu and ordered his release.

Kanu was unlawfully brought back

The court argued that Kanu had been unlawfully brought back to Nigeria after jumping bail.

However, dissatisfied with the verdict, the federal government appealed the decision and sought the intervention of the Supreme Court to overturn the ruling.

On the other hand, Kanu, represented by Mike Ozekhome (SAN), is fervently praying that the Supreme Court upholds the previous ruling that ordered his release, while also seeking to set aside the stay of execution on the judgment.

The legal teams of both parties presented their final submissions on Thursday, paving the way for the Supreme Court to determine the fate of Nnamdi Kanu.
