Jorge Vilda, the coach who led Spain’s women’s soccer team to victory in the World Cup, has been fired due to the ongoing scandal involving Luis Rubiales, the president of Spain’s football federation.
This controversy began when Rubiales was seen kissing one of the team’s players, Jenni Hermoso, and she claimed it was not consensual.
As a result of this incident, many of Vilda’s coaching staff resigned, and 81 players refused to play for the Spanish national team. FIFA, the organization governing world soccer, provisionally suspended Rubiales, but he has refused to step down from his position.

Vilda supported Rubiales
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) did not provide a specific reason for Vilda’s dismissal in its statement.
However, there had been discussions about removing Vilda from his position since last week, as he was seen as a close ally of Rubiales.
Vilda had previously supported Rubiales at an RFEF meeting in August but later criticised Rubiales’ behaviour.
Vilda had been the head coach of the national team since 2015 and had faced challenges in the past.
In September 2022, 15 players expressed concerns about their emotional well-being and health under Vilda’s leadership but didn’t explicitly call for his dismissal. Only three of those players returned to the team and played a part in Spain’s World Cup victory against England.
During his tenure as Spain’s coach, Vilda oversaw 108 matches, winning 75 of them, and led the team to the European Championship quarter-finals in 2017 and 2022.

Spain’s Coach Vilda caught touching female staff breast during celebrations
In another news,Video footage has emerged showing Spanish head coach Jorge Vilda allegedly touching a female staff member inappropriately during the Women’s World Cup final between Spain and England.
The incident occurred as the Spanish staff celebrated a goal, with Vilda’s hand appearing to linger on the staff member’s breast.
Vilda’s leadership has sparked division within his team, evident in his on-field celebrations being ignored by players after their quarterfinal victory and a handshake snub from Spanish star Alexia Putellas during the semi-final.
