Luis Rubiales, the president of Spain’s football association, chose not to step down despite the controversy surrounding his post-Women’s World Cup final kiss with Jenni Hermoso, his mother has taken a dramatic step. 

She’s currently staging a hunger strike within the confines of a church, protesting against what she perceives as her son’s unjust treatment.

Rubiales’ actions came under FIFA’s jurisdiction due to the Women’s World Cup being a FIFA competition.

FIFA investigations

Consequently, FIFA’s disciplinary bodies are handling the case, and both UEFA and FIFA have engaged in discussions about the matter.

The controversy escalated further when Yolanda Diaz, Spain’s labor minister, criticized Rubiales for his behavior, describing it as “sexual aggression.” 

She expressed disappointment in the government’s delay in addressing the issue and labeled his actions as “profoundly discriminatory.”

Rubiales’ refusal to resign led to expectations that he would step down, but instead, he delivered a resolute speech, alleging that he was being targeted unfairly by “false feminists.” The RFEF subsequently convened a special meeting to address the situation.

Rubiales mother emback on hunger strike 

Amidst this backdrop, Rubiales’ mother, Angeles Bejar, took her protest to a more extreme level. By retreating to a church and initiating a hunger strike, she aims to draw attention to what she views as her son’s “inhumane treatment.” 

According to her statements to the EFE news agency, she intends to maintain this protest until she perceives a just resolution to what she characterizes as an unwarranted and aggressive pursuit against her son.

Spanish FA President in trouble as FIFA  opens disciplinary proceedings

In another news, FIFA is investigating Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish Football Association.

 He kissed Jenni Hermoso after Spain’s Women’s World Cup victory. FIFA is concerned about how people are treated and condemns behaviour that goes against this.

Rubiales, who leads the Spanish Football Association, kissed Hermoso on the lips when she received a medal after Spain won 1-0 against England in Sydney.
