The match got off to a blistering start, with Manchester City taking the lead through Bernardo Silva’s free-kick in the 2nd minute.
However, Real Madrid bounced back quickly, with Edu Camavinga’s deflected effort (12′) and Rodrygo’s strike (14′) putting the hosts ahead within the first quarter of an hour.
City Fight Back
The pendulum swung back in Manchester City’s favor in the second half. Phil Foden (66′) and Josko Gvardiol (71′) scored to make it 3-2 for the visitors. It seemed like Pep Guardiola’s men had seized control of the tie.
But just when City looked in command, Federico Valverde (79′) equalized for Real Madrid with a well-taken volley from close range.
End-to-End Affair
The second half was a breathless, end-to-end affair, with both teams creating numerous chances but unable to find a winning goal.
The 3-3 draw leaves the tie delicately poised ahead of the second leg at the Etihad Stadium next week. Despite the draw, Real Madrid will be the happier side, having come from behind twice against the defending champions.
Manchester City will rue their inability to capitalize on their dominance and will need a strong home performance to keep their hopes of defending the title alive.
