The Nigerian Police has begun investigations into the alleged assault of Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.
This was stated in a recent statement by the Force’s PRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Friday, November 10th.
The statement partly read, “Consequently, he (IGP) has directed the Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department to take over the matter with the primary objective of ascertaining the true facts surrounding the incident and to address any ambiguities that may exist as the Police has been inundated with different versions of the incident making investigations imperative to clear the conflicting accounts.”

The IGP, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, also urged the public to stay calm as they conduct a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the incident.
“The investigation has commenced, and the Nigeria Police Force guarantees that it will be followed to a conclusive end, and appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.”
Recall that on November 1st, Joe Ajaero was reportedly assaulted and abducted by the Imo State Police during a protest.
However, the governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, denied any involvement in the assault, stating that he was unaware of the incident. The Imo State Police also denied, claiming they offered him protection.

How NLC President was abducted, assaulted by Imo State police
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the President of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero was allegedly assaulted and abducted by the Imo State Police.
Ajaero had recently traveled to Imo State for the NLC’s protest and strike to advocate for workers’ salary continuity.
Unfortunately, during the protest, thugs attacked the workers, causing injuries and property damage. Ajaero was abducted by the Imo State Police to an unknown destination, where he was assaulted further.
