The National Broadcasting Commission has granted the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) a licence to operate Direct Satellite Broadcasting (BSB) and Internet Protocol Television (IPTV).
It was gathered that the Director-General of the NBC, Balarabe Ilela presented the document to the NYSC Director-General, Maj Gen Shauibu Ibrahim on Wednesday in Abuja.
A statement by the Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations at the NYSC, Emeka Mgbemena revealed that a radio licence was also forthcoming.
Ilela said the licence would enable NYSC tell its story and show its achievements to the world.
He said NYSC had contributed to the country’s growth and unity.
Ilela said:” The commission normally gives license in trust and we believe this will be used for the purpose it is given.
“We are very proud to be part of your progress. With somebody like you, we are sure our license is in safe hands.”
On his part, Ibrahim said since his assuming office, he has been desirous of getting radio and television stations for NYSC.
The NYSC DG, however, noted that it was fulfilling that the dream had come true.
He gave an assurance that the Scheme would deploy the broadcast station to promote its programmes as well as government policies and programmes.
