Nigerians Speak on Hike in Electricity Tariff |Ikejabird.com

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) recently announced a significant increase in electricity tariff. This decision which saw a 240% rise in the electricity bill for Band A customers sparked outrage online as Nigerians demanded for immediate reduction.

The band A customers, who are mostly based in commercial areas, will now receive 20-24 hours of electricity supply daily. Under the new tariff structure, these customers are currently paying N225 per kilowatt-hour, a tremendous increase from the previous rate of N68/kWh.

Despite the tariff increase and improved electricity supply in certain areas, others still struggle to access even three hours of electricity daily. As individuals stop recharging their meters and seek alternative solutions, could this pose a risk for electricity providers in the long run?
