Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been nominated for the prestigious Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award alongside some big names like Messi, Haaland, and Mbappe.
Osimhen has shown remarkable skill and performance over the last two years, but his standout year was the previous season.
The 24-year-old Nigerian striker inspired Napoli to win their first Scudetto in 33 years. He achieved this by scoring an impressive 26 goals in Italy’s Serie A, making him the highest-scoring African player in the league.

Osimhen’s achievements last season
Additionally, Osimhen significantly impacted the UEFA Champions League, scoring five goals and helping Napoli reach the quarterfinals, their best performance in the competition to date.
Osimhen demonstrated his reliability on the international stage by finishing as the top scorer in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
His outstanding performances have earned him widespread praise and recognition across Africa. He is currently a leading contender for the CAF Player of the Year award and is also in the running for the prestigious Ballon d’Or.
FIFA Nomines for Player of the Year
Recently, FIFA, the global football governing body, unveiled its Player of the Year shortlist, and Victor Osimhen has secured a spot on that list.
Among the other football stars nominated alongside Osimhen are Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Declan Rice, Erling Haaland, Rodrigo (Manchester City), Julian Alvarez, Marcelo Brozovic, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Bernardo Silva.
It’s important to note that the individual awards at the FIFA Awards are determined by the votes of four groups: fans, national team managers, national team captains, and media representatives.
The evaluation period for the men’s awards covers performances from December 19, 2022, to August 20, 2023.

Osimhen: Napoli rejects £140m offer from Al-Hilal for Super Eagles striker
In another news, Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal recently made a massive offer to sign Napoli’s talented Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen.
The Saudi club reportedly put forward an astonishing €140 million bid for the Super Eagles star and a huge weekly pay package of €1 million.
However, the Italian champions Napoli turned down the lucrative offer, firmly believing they could get even more from Al Hilal.
