Nigerian engineer invents non-electric ventilator "ShiVent"

A Nigerian inventor, Engineer Yusuf Bilesanmi won the “One To Watch” award after his ventilator, ‘ShiVent’ won the engineering contest.

Yusuf, 37, obtained his first degree in Law at Lagos State University, before he proceeded to study engineering.

In a YouTube video, ShiVent was shown to have completed functionality testing at the National Centre for Sports and Exercise and Medicine at Loughborough University, UK.

Yusuf Bilesanmi explained how the device works: “ShiVent does not require electricity, it is easy to install, non-invasive, and oxygen-efficient, and our belief is that it will help save lives when more expensive or oxygen-intensive technologies can’t get to patients.”

The brilliant innovator, along with 11 other innovators presented their various devices to a live audience during the Africa Price for Engineering.

His device, ShiVent, won their votes as the most promising and impactful. 

He also received a £5,000 prize, and numerous congratulatory messages.

14-year-old Nigerian girl achieves incredible feat, wins 7 medals across the world in mathematics contests

Meanwhile, an exceptionally brilliant 14-year-old Nigerian girl, Fatima Adamu Maikusa, has won 7 medals in 7 international mathematics competitions.

Fatima, who is from Gombe, a state in Northern Nigeria, is a grade 11 student at the Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (NTIC) Kano, Nigeria.

The maths guru, who was also recognized by mathematics professionals, is said to have started excelling when she was 9 years old.
