In a recent announcement, the Nigeria Police Force has revealed plans to initiate a rigorous crackdown on traffic offenders and curb vehicle-related crimes across the country.
The Police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized the impending launch of Operation Velvet and the e-CMR, aimed at ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.
Adejobi took to social media to communicate this directive, urging all vehicle owners to renew and update their necessary documents in preparation for the upcoming operation.

Police Force will soon operationalize the e-CMR
He stressed the Force’s commitment to thwarting illegalities and enforcing strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations.
“The Nigeria Police Force will soon operationalize the e-CMR and Operation Velvet. This is to inform Nigerians who are vehicle owners to go and renew or update their papers. We will frustrate all illegalities and noncompliance with traffic rules/regulations in Nigeria and fight all vehicle-related crimes to a standstill in this country,” Adejobi’s tweet stated.
A peace treaty in Kano
Amidst these developments, the Police in Kano facilitated a peace treaty signing between the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
This accord, organized by the Kano State Police Command, aimed to promote peace and tranquility in the region ahead of the impending tribunal judgment.
Mohammed Usaini Gumel, the Commissioner of Police in Kano, assured reporters of the command’s preparedness to maintain peace and security throughout the state.
He highlighted the completion of security strategies to ensure stability before, during, and after the tribunal ruling, underscoring the collaborative efforts of various security agencies towards this goal.
