Ikejabird recalls that on September 29th, Lagos State shut down the market due to reckless waste disposal, unhygienic premises, amongst others.

Although there was initially news of Ladipo market reopening, it was later announced that it would remain closed due to non-compliance with environmental requirements.

In a recent statement by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the CEO, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, stated that Ladipo Market will remain closed until it complies with environmental and safety regulations.

It partly read, “The Lagos State Government has said that Ladipo Market has not been reopened, as it is yet to comply fully with some environmental and safety conditions required before recommencing business activities. Some of the reopened markets include Oyingbo, Ile Epo Oke-Odo and Alamutu markets.”

“Our primary concern is the safety of the people and environmental well-being at marketplaces. Reopening is contingent upon strict adherence to the safety conditions set forth by LAWMA. All necessary precautions must be taken to prevent any potential risks’.

“Ladipo Market would also be reopened to business activities once it passed the requisite safety audit.”
