Lagos court remand Chidinma for 30 days over the death of Super TV CEO

A magistrate court in Yaba, Lagos, has ordered the remand of suspected killer of Usifo Ataga, Chidinma Ojukwu, for 30 days.

The magistrate, Adeola Adedayo, gave the order following a remand application by the police prosecutor, Cyril Ejiofor in accordance to section 264 subsections 1 and 2 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

Recall Chidinma, a 300-level student of the University of Lagos, was arrested on June 23 for the murder of Usifo and confessed to have stabbed him several times, stole from him and left him in an apartment where they lodged in Lekki.

Ms Ojukwu who appeared with a co-defendant in the case, Quadri Adedapo, were remanded till September 5 for the review of remand and legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.

Mr. Babajide Martins who represented the first defendant enjoined the prosecution team to make necessary documents available to the defence before being brought before the court.

He said, “I have just been privileged to get a copy of the remand application. I have not been able to go through it, my learned friend’s application is inevitable, I would have been happier if I was obliged of the application earlier. The application will not be opposed, in principle.”

In her ruling, the magistrate said: “In the absence of anything to the contrary, the two defendants are remanded for 30 days in the first instance,” Mrs. Adedayo said.
