The government’s decision to close Kodesho bridge for repairs came as a surprise to the residents of Ikeja community. The closure, while necessary for ensuring public safety and maintaining infrastructure integrity, presented a logistical challenge that demanded swift and effective solutions.
According to a LASTMA official identified as Ishola Akeem, the bridge was closed during late hours on 5th of February 2024 and maintenance should be concluded on the 4th of March 2024 as stated by the Lagos Government.
With the bridge out of use, authorities have swiftly swung into action, implementing a comprehensive plan to mitigate the impact of the closure on traffic flow and ensure that alternative routes are readily available for drivers. Road signs were strategically placed to inform motorists of the closure and redirect them towards viable detours, below the bridge. Traffic management personnel were deployed to key intersections to facilitate the smooth flow of vehicles.
While the closure of the bridge has inevitably led to increased congestion, measures have been put in place by LASTMA officials to alleviate traffic bottlenecks and minimize delays. As the repair work progresses, authorities are monitoring traffic patterns and adjusting strategies as needed to ensure a smooth transition back to normalcy. Residents and commuters eagerly await the swift completion of repair works, and the reopening of the bridge.
