JAMB 2024/2025: University Cut Off Marks at an all-time low

Oluwagbeminiyi Abiola

The results of the 2024 JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board) has left many worried over the poor performance of students.

Only 0.4% of the 1.8 million students who wrote JAMB were able to score 300 marks out of 400 marks. This means only 8,401 students scored that high.

Even worse, a huge 76% of students scored below 200 marks in the exam. A score below 200 is usually not good enough to get admission into most universities, polytechnics and colleges.  This poor performance is not new – it has been happening for many years now. Last year too, over 70% of students failed to get the required marks.

Nigerians took to social media using #JambScores to share their frustration over students constantly failing JAMB exams year after year.  The poor results raise concerns over the quality of education in the country. There are urgent calls for the government to fix the problems leading to the yearly massive fail rates.
