The Labour party presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has paid tribute to the late President Umaru Yar’Adua.
He described him as a “true democrat” and a “detribalised leader” who was committed to repositioning Nigeria through unity, peace, and progress.
Obi, in a statement released on Thursday, said that Yar’Adua’s leadership style was characterized by true governance, transparency, and accountability.

Peter Obi praises Yar’Adua presidency
He noted that Yar’Adua believed in the principles of good governance and was committed to ensuring that Nigeria was repositioned for growth and development.
According to Obi, Yar’Adua’s patriotism and excellence in public service were exemplary, and he understood the importance of non-tribal, non-religious, and non-partisan governance in achieving societal development.
The former Anambra State Governor also praised Yar’Adua’s commitment to unity and peace in Nigeria, saying that the late President desired to build a nation where everyone was treated equally and fairly.
He also said that Nigerians will always remember him and that the positive contributions he made to the country still exist, even 13 years after his passing.

Peter Obi speaks on arrest and accusations against him
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, recently took to Twitter to address his arrest and the allegations against him.
He stated that he is undaunted by the lies and propaganda being spread against him and regards them as inevitable obstacles in the quest for a new Nigeria.
Many of Peter Obi’s supporters were left wondering what had occurred after news of his alleged arrest caused him to trend on social media. Addressing the matter, he stated that he understands that as humans, we make mistakes and will never knowingly break any law.
