The All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government has declared holidays for the celebration of Christmas and the New Year.
The disclosure was made by the minister of Interior and former governor of Osun state, Rauf Aregbesola, on Saturday, December 17.
In a statement issued, the government declared Monday and Tuesday, December 26 and 27, 2022, as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day celebrations.
It further declared a public holiday on Monday, January 2, for the celebration of the New Year.
While stating that peace and security are two critical conditions for economic development and prosperity, Aregbesola urged the Christians both at home and abroad to imbibe the teachings of Christ.
The minister also called for patience, peace and righteousness which signify the birth and personality of Jesus. He also admonished Nigerians to “moderately celebrate the festival, avoid the spread of fake news and be responsible. “
“We must imbibe the life of Jesus Christ in His practice and teachings on Humility, Service, Compassion, Patience, Peace and Righteousness, that His birth signifies. This will be the best way to portray Christ and celebrate his birth,” part of the statement read.
