In a recent development, DStv announced that it will increase all subscription prices by at least 17%. The news has caused outrage among subscribers, with many taking to social media to express their frustration.

One of them is popular media personality Lola Okunrin, known as @lollypeezle on Twitter. Okunrin has called for a boycott of Multichoice and their products, including DStv and GOTV, citing the continuous increase in tariffs and the lack of variety in content.

Okunrin’s tweet has garnered a lot of attention, with many subscribers speaking up about their sentiments. One user, shared that she had already instructed her husband not to subscribe to DStv anymore due to the high cost and lack of channels.

There are no alternatives

The young man also stated that the increase in the fee for their service is becoming too frequent and is becoming unbearable.

However, some users like OhiZ pointed out that a boycott might not be effective in a monopolistic market, where there are no alternatives.

The increase in subscription prices is expected to take effect from May 1st, 2023. Many subscribers are left with limited options and will have to decide whether to pay the increased prices or cancel their subscriptions altogether. It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Nigerian media personality, Anita Natacha Akide popularly known as Tacha has taken to social media to cry out to the CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk to give her back her verified blue tick.

Ikeja bird reported earlier that the CEO of Twitter decided to remove all blue ticks from celebrities’ accounts who failed to pay the monthly fee for the tick.

Well, Symply Tacha, one of the housemates of the Big Brother naija season 7 was affected and required to pay the sum of over N3,000 to keep her verified blue tick on Twitter.
