Shema’u Sani Labaran, a Kano-based woman, has died at Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital due to the negligence of the management of the hospital.
Shama’u was pregnant at the time she was rushed to the hospital and was expected to deliver her baby at the hospital.
Bello Fancy, her husband, said her death was caused by late confirmation of a transfer made to the hospital’s bank account.
Also, it was reported that the doctors had insisted that the payment must be seen and confirmed before they can attend to Shema’u.
“My wife walked into the hospital from our house, but before they received the alert, the pains had doubled and she was already bleeding. Still, they didn’t touch her until after three hours when they received the alert.
“After they admitted her, they discovered that she could not deliver by herself; that she must undergo an operation. I agreed and paid the money; still through transfer. It also delayed for an additional three hours before they received the alert and operated on my wife. Shockingly, the baby was brought out dead and the mother also died,” he said.
However, Rahila Garba, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital has denied the allegations adding that the situation was not exactly as painted.
