A group within the New Nigeria Peoples Party, led by Major Agbo, has removed Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, who was running for president on their party’s ticket.

They did this because they believe he did things against the party’s rules and mishandled money meant for the party’s campaign.

This decision was announced in a statement from the NNPP faction’s spokesperson, Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq, in Abuja.

This happened just a few days after the faction’s leaders said they would investigate Kwankwaso and some of his supporters for allegedly mishandling more than one billion naira, which they made from selling nomination forms.

Abdulrasaq said they expelled Kwankwaso immediately because he didn’t show up before a panel that was looking into the accusations of him working against the party and misusing campaign money, even though they had invited him to defend himself within five days. He added that they followed the rules of the party constitution from 2022 to do this.

He also said, “The party’s leaders met quickly on September 1 and decided that since Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso didn’t come to the disciplinary committee’s meeting on August 31, even after they invited him in writing, he is now expelled from NNPP.

They will also report him to the appropriate authorities to answer questions about how he handled public money.”

However, a friend of Kwankwaso and the National Auditor of NNPP, Ladipo Johnson, disagreed with this report. He said that Agbo’s group doesn’t have the right to remove the former governor from the party.
