From Nollywood dramas in cinemas to the latest Spider-Man adventure and highly anticipated Nigerian productions still on the way, movie lovers have plenty of options this Friday.
For those visiting the cinema, Blood Debt is one of the Nigerian titles to consider. The crime thriller offers suspense, family secrets and a search for justice, making it suitable for viewers who enjoy dark dramas and stories filled with unexpected twists. Apaara: The Outcast is another option, especially for lovers of Yoruba historical films, as it explores power, corruption, betrayal and the struggle of a man pushed to the margins of society.
Other Nigerian movies on the cinema list include Alechenu, a family drama about a young boy whose journey from Oyo to Lagos exposes painful secrets; On Different Grounds, a romantic comedy about a separated couple brought together during their daughter’s wedding preparations; and The Return of Omotara Johnson, a crime drama starring Bukky Wright, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Chidi Mokeme and Timini Egbuson. Njem: The Journey, which follows a young man whose dream of travelling abroad becomes complicated by love and loss, is also worth checking for continued screenings.

The film opened internationally on July 31,2026 and is expected to attract Marvel fans looking for action, humour and big-screen spectacle.

Nigerian viewers can explore local titles such as Ada Omo Daddy, Something Like Gold, Lísàbí: A Legend Is Born, Shina and Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre, which offer a mix of comedy, romance, family drama, history and mythology. Colours of Fire, a Nigerian fantasy film arriving on Netflix on August 7, is another option for viewers interested in warriors, rival clans and supernatural conflict.
For viewers looking for free entertainment, YouTube has become another popular home for new Nollywood stories. Sibe, starring Bimbo Ademoye, Uche Montana and Daniel Etim Effiong, is among the trending uploads to search for this weekend.
The most anticipated Nigerian production on the horizon remains The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, adapted from Lola Shoneyin’s acclaimed novel. The film follows the secrets and tensions inside the household of a wealthy polygamous man, with Odunlade Adekola, Iyabo Ojo, Mercy Aigbe, Bimbo Ademoye and Omowunmi Dada among the cast. It is scheduled for cinema release in December 2026, making it one of Nollywood’s films audiences will be watching closely.
