Local government elections were held across Lagos State on Saturday, July 12, 2025, with various political parties contesting leadership positions in all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) officially announced the results on Sunday, July 13, 2025. The All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded a sweeping victory, clinching all 20 chairmanship positions and securing 375 out of 376 councillorship seats across the state.
Ikeja, often regarded as the heartbeat of Lagos—was no exception to this political wave. The APC emerged dominant in the area, securing both the chairmanship and all councillorship positions.

Spotlight on the New Chairman: Dauda Akeem Olalekan (AKOD)

Dauda Akeem Olalekan, popularly known as AKOD, emerged as the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government after securing a decisive 12,139 votes in the July 2025 elections.
Prior to his election, he served as the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), a role in which he built a reputation for dedication and grassroots engagement. His leadership and youth empowerment efforts were recognized in December 2024 when he received the Award of Excellence in Youth Development from the Pearl Leadership Academy. His initiatives included youth-focused football programs and employability training that benefited over 3,000 young people.
Chairman Dauda’s administration is guided by the Ikeja Agenda, a strategic blueprint focused on five key pillars:
