Ferguson and Cathy were married from 1966 until her demise in October 2023 for 57 years. They met in 1964 when they were working in a typewriter factory where they started their relationship.
Before her demise, Cathy had three children with the veteran Scottish tactician: Darren Ferguson, Mark Ferguson, and Jason Ferguson. Their first son, Darren, is currently the coach of Peterborough FC, a third-tier club in the United Kingdom.
Sir Alex managed Manchester United for 27 of their married years, and it is believed that Cathy was a major factor in his decision to delay his retirement from coaching until 2013.
As a show of respect, flags at Old Trafford have been lowered to half-mast, and both the men’s and women’s teams will wear black armbands for this weekend’s games.
