Popular Nigerian artist, Temilade Openiyi aka Tems, has achieved another significant milestone by being selected in TIME Magazine’s Next 100 list for 2023.

The Grammy-winning artist has made waves in the music industry with her soulful voice and captivating lyrics.

In the TIME article published on Wednesday, Mary Blige, an Oscar-nominated singer-songwriter, praised Tems for her unmatched uniqueness and originality, drawing comparisons to the legendary Nina Simone.

She expressed her admiration for Tems, describing her as a beautiful individual both inside and out.

“Tems is in a class all by herself because no other artist sounds like her. That voice is so unique and original, so much so that it reminds me of the first time I heard Nina Simone. They both sing with emotion and conviction, making you feel every word they sing.

“When Tems and I finally had a chance to meet last year at the Grammy Awards, we just exploded on each other, giving each other so much love. I know she will make it far because she’s a talented writer, singer, and producer-my only hope for her is that she becomes one of the biggest artists of her time.”

Tems wins two prestigious awards in a single night

Meanwhile, Oscar-nominated and Grammy-winning Nigerian sensation Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, achieved a remarkable double victory, receiving two prestigious awards on opposite sides of the Atlantic.

In London, at the ELLE Style Awards, the “Essence” crooner was honoured with the esteemed Trailblazer Award, an accolade that recognizes her exceptional contributions to the world of music.

The award was presented by BAFTA-winning actress Naomi Ackie and BBC Radio 1 presenter Julie Adenuga.
