Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, has voiced his disappointment over the forthcoming departure of British pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) from Nigeria.
This move comes after GSK announced its intention to cease prescription medicine and vaccine production within the country.
The multinational pharmaceutical company plans to shift to a third-party direct distribution model for its pharmaceutical products.
He explained the effect of their departure
In a tweet on Friday night, Peter Obi expressed his concern regarding GSK’s decision to leave Nigeria.
He highlighted that the company’s justification for leaving, which revolves around the lack of prospects for a productive business environment in the country, is disheartening.
Obi attributed these consequences to the cumulative mismanagement of Nigeria’s economy.
He noted that the departure of multinational companies from the country not only results in job losses but also negatively impacts human capital development.
