A United States court has fixed a new date for the trial of Abba Kyari, suspended top Nigerian police officer, and five others, for alleged $1.1 million fraud superintended by Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi.
The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California changed the trial date from May to October 2022.
Sources said this was based on a joint request by the prosecution and three of Kyari’s co-defendants.
This followed the extradition proceedings filed against Kyari at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The supercop is also facing trial on charges of illegal dealing in cocaine, as well as extradition proceedings filed against him recently based on the U.S. government’s request to Nigeria to hand him over for trial in California.
