The Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) arrested three traffic robbers at Ikeja City Mall this afternoon, while the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mile 2 Park, aided the police in the arrest of four notorious traffic robbers in the area.

Segun Peters (22), Kabiru Odeh (25), Nurudeen Suraj (22) and Dennis Ikuvbogie (24) were arrested while having a field day at Mile 2; the other suspects, Anifowoshe Kolawole (20), Patrick Ameke (21) and John Britto (27) were picked up around Ikeja City Mall based on complaints about their illicit activities around the area.

CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), had a tip about traffic robbery activity.

On a tip, the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, dispatched plain cloth police officers to Mile 2 this afternoon to monitor and arrest traffic robbers.

Before the officers arrived, the NURTW members had rounded up the four suspects. Following that, the suspects were turned over to the police team for investigation and prosecution.

Nurudeen Suraj, one of the suspects, was arrested and detained at Agboju Police Station about a week ago. He stated that he had been out of prison for two months.

Following a petition initiated by the management of Ikeja City Mall regarding reported traffic robberies in the area, the robbers were selectively picked.

The suspects, who were placed under close surveillance before being apprehended this afternoon, pretended to be beggars and nose mask vendors on the majority of occasions. They used the ruse to rob visitors to the complex, including motorists and pedestrians.

Anifowsoshe Kolawole, one of the suspects, pleaded for mercy after being warned numerous times by police.

Abiodun Alabi, the Commissioner of Police, praised the civilians who provided intelligence to the police as well as those who assisted the police in apprehending the suspects, emphasising that if people cooperated with the police, our communities would be safer.
