8 quick fire stats of the presidential election

Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the president-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In the keenly contested polls held on February 25, the former Lagos state governor polled a staggering figure to the tune of over 8 million votes to become the new sheriff in town.

With his victory, Tinubu becomes the fifth democratically-elected president in Nigeria. He will succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2023.

Here are the five quick-fire stats in the just concluded election as gathered by Ikeja Bird:

  1. The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) and its presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, got the highest vote in a state — 997,279 in Kano state.
  2. The ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) won with 10% of those with PVC.
  3. All the top three candidates ( Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, won 12 states apiece.
  4. APC has the widest vote spread — won in five of six regions.
  5. Only Peter Obi’s Labour Party won all states in an entire region — South East.
  6. APC won Rivers, Borno, Jigawa, Zamfara, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo and Ogun states.
  7. PDP won Katsina, Osun, Kebbi, Sokoto, Kaduna, Gombe, Yobe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states.
  8. LP won Edo, Cross River, Delta, Lagos, FCT, Plateau, Imo, Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Anambra, Abia and Enugu states.
