2023 presidency: Peter Obi’s campaign flaws, opposition from Anambra

Less than 3 months to 2023 polls, political campaigns have started, and all candidates are working towards winning.

Peter Gregory Obi, who is the presidential candidate of Labour Party can be regarded as one of the leading candidates in the 2023 election.

But his campaign is not devoid of flaws as common with Nigerian politicians in previous elections.

Ikejabird looks at some of the flaws of Peter Obi’s campaign and how it can affect his chance of victory ahead of 2023 election.

1. His Party limited reach might pose weakness

Peter Obi’s popularity on the social media is high, and he has continuously enjoyed endorsements and love from thousands of users on various social media platforms.

But without a substantial physical presence of his political party in local areas of every state, the success of his campaign might be impacted.

His political party, Labour Party has lesser visible secretariats in many states in the country.

Furthermore, the party tends to have little or no major candidates contesting for other political offices which would have helped spread his popularity in important areas of the country.

2. Peter Obi’s Igbo antagonists

Many other presidential aspirants contesting have enjoyed their tribesmen endorsements.

Earlier, Ahmed Bola Tinubu was publicly endorsed by some Yoruba leaders, while Atiku Abubakar has also received similar tribal endorsements.

Peter Obi has often received criticism from other Igbo leaders. Among many who have criticized the Labour Party candidate includes Victor Ike Oye, The chairman of APGA, Willie Obiano, the immediate successor of the presidential candidate and also the present governor of Anambra state, Governor Charles Soludo, Archbishop Emmanuel Chukwuma among others.

3. Is Soludos Comment a major draw back?

Yesterday, the present governor of Anambra who shared the same party, APGA with the presidential candidate until 2014 posted a lengthy tweet on his Twitter page.

However, the comments from the governor has led to plenty of reactions and uproar from followers of the presidential candidate.

Only time will tell if these drawbacks can hamper Peter Obi’s success at the polls.
