2023: I didn’t mean to harm – Brymo apologises after anti-Igbo outburst

Olawale Olofore, popular singer and songwriter better known as Brymo, has finally apologized for saying the Southeastern part of the country is not ripe to produce the Nigerian president.

The singer had drawn the irk of the south-easterners when he in a social media rant affirmed his support for the former governor of Lagos state and the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Brymo had described the demand for the Igbo presidency as a “pipe dream”, saying the agitation for Biafra Igbos would not give them the edge to have the presidency.

“As long as there (are) talks by prominent people from Igboland about Biafra, an Igbo presidency will be a pipe dream,” Brymo tweeted.

The tweet, which generated fuss and mixed reactions on the micro-blogging platform Twitter, led to a protest against the singers as over 40,000 people have signed a petition demanding the singer be stripped of his nomination for the AFRIMA Music award.

The singer has now eaten a humble pie, saying he did not mean to insult the Igbos with his position on the 2023 general elections.

“Forgive my assertions that came across as bigoted spewings against the Igbo tribe, I did not mean to do harm, I am sorry!!,” the singer later tweeted.
