Renowned journalist Reuben Abati has strongly criticised Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for his recent press conference in Abuja where he raised doubts about President Bola Tinubu’s academic credentials.
Abati, speaking on Arise TV, expressed his disapproval of Obi’s actions, characterizing the press conference as unnecessary and a ploy for attention.
During the press conference on October 11, 2023, Peter Obi called on President Tinubu to provide a clearer account of his educational history, his participation in the National Youth Service Corps, and any potential name changes. Obi emphasized the importance of transparency to avoid international embarrassment.

Abati, a respected figure in Nigerian journalism, criticized Obi’s approach, suggesting that concerns about the electoral process should be addressed through legal means. He argued that Obi’s actions were primarily aimed at garnering media attention and publicity.
Abati added that the ongoing legal action initiated by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the PDP, as a more appropriate avenue for addressing electoral concerns.
In response to Obi’s claims, the All Progressives Congress (APC) clarified that Chicago State University had addressed the questions raised, asserting that there were no hidden details regarding President Tinubu’s identity.
