The Nasarawa State Governorship Election Tribunal, witnesses took the stand to provide their testimonies regarding alleged irregularities in the recent elections. 

The proceedings, which took place on Friday, August 25th, 2023, focused on the continuation of the defense presented by the Second Respondent, A. A. Sule.

Dr. Adekunle, the lead counsel for the Second Respondent, submitted certified copies of documents, including Form EC8BS for Shege 1 ward of Toto LGA and Form EC8BS of Gidan Ausa 2 of Obi LGA. However, Dr. JS Okutepa, the lead counsel for the PDP, objected to the admissibility of these documents, stating that the objection would be elaborated on in their written address.

Several witnesses were then called upon to provide their testimonies:

  • Muktari Ibrahim: An APC member and civil servant from Iya ward 2 of Keffi LGA. He indicated the use of BVAS machines for voter authentication and result uploading. He claimed that while the election was peaceful, there were reductions in APC’s results and increases in PDP’s results. Under cross-examination, it was revealed that the alleged tampered results did not match IREV records.
  • Habibu Ahmed Sarki: The APC collation agent for Ara 2 ward in Nasarawa LGA. He acknowledged the peaceful conduct of the elections but alleged manipulation of results for Aleyika polling unit 010 in favor of the PDP. Cross-examination exposed his use of a forged result, conflicting with IREV records.
  • Ibrahim Danlami Umar: Hailing from Aza 2 unit of Kuto Aisa ward. He affirmed the use of BVAS machines but struggled to provide accurate details during cross-examination, weakening his testimony.
  • Abdulkadir Adamu: Representing Madakin Gari 1 Nasarawa North ward. He pointed out discrepancies in polling units and confirmed the authenticity of BVAS IREV uploaded results.
  • Iduwa Sabo: He confirmed the use of BVAS IREV and the peaceful conduct of the elections, though discrepancies were claimed for specific polling units. Cross-examination revealed his lack of information about these units.
  • Ibrahim Sabo Yahaya: While affirming the peaceful nature of the elections, he highlighted result discrepancies for the Udege polling unit.
  • Kaika Aminu Egwa: He attested to the peaceful elections but possessed limited information about alleged irregularities.

The testimonies of these witnesses have raised doubts about the credibility of certain claims regarding result discrepancies. As the tribunal proceeds, the court will continue to assess the presented evidence and arguments.

Delta state tribunal declares Ndudi Elumelu winner for Aniocha/Oshimili constituency

Meanwhile,the Delta State National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Asaba declared Ngozi Okolie’s win in the February 25 National Assembly election as invalid, ruling in favor of Ndudi Elumelu of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The tribunal then declared Ndudi Elumelu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the rightful winner of the election. 

Elumelu had filed a petition, EPT/DL/HR/06/2023, urging the tribunal to disqualify Okolie due to reasons like improper sponsorship by the Labour Party and failure to resign from his previous public office.
