Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, has revealed the government’s intentions to use the N5 billion palliative received from the Federal Government, for transportation and food supplies.
This announcement was made after a closed-door meeting between Wike and contractors responsible for various projects in the FCT.
The Federal Government recently announced a N5 billion palliative for each state of the federation, including the FCT, aimed at reducing the impact of the petrol subsidy removal.

Some states already received theirs
While some state governments have confirmed the receipt of N2 billion from the allocation, awaiting the remaining N3 billion, the FCT was initially excluded from the distribution.
Wike also disclosed that Tinubu had subsequently approved the allocation for the FCT, aligning it with the distributions to other states that had already received N2 billion.
We have not come up with a definitive plan yet
The minister acknowledged that although the FCT had not finalized its allocation plans, there was a consensus on prioritizing transportation and food supplies support.
Wike explained the need for accessible transportation, particularly urban mass transit, in ensuring citizens’ ease of movement, while food assistance might be important but addressing long-term transportation needs was equally crucial.
“We have not come up with a definitive plan for the N2 billion palliative yet. The decision-making process is ongoing. While considering the possibility of food support, we recognize the paramount importance of transportation. Providing easy transportation options is vital, as people not only require sustenance but also reliable means to travel,” Wike stated.
