Let’s embrace our culture
Reno’s advice to Nigerian politicians and ambassadors was to wear Nigerian fabric and showcase Nigerian culture as a means to promote the country’s growth. According to him, this approach would help to develop Nigeria further.
Let’s take a look at his tweets
Outside the AriseTV studio in London this morning, I was the cynosure of all eyes. People of all nationalities walked up to admire my agbada. The reason I stood out is because I dressed in a Nigerian outfit. If I had worn a suit and tie, nobody would have paid me any attention.
This is the same reason why Nigerian music was not selling globally for years. It is because our artists, musicians and vocalists, with the exception of Fela and a few others, were aping Western music.
But the minute they started to be unabashedly Nigerian in their music, they took off into orbit and have not returned. Two ministers should NEVER wear anything but Nigerian attires i Nigerian fabric, whether it be beads, Kaduna textiles, aso oke, or Akwete cloth.
The culture and tourism minister, and the foreign minister. Why would I want to visit your country when your tourism minister dresses like a relic of colonialism and a hangover of Lord Lugard?
And what type of foreign minister dresses like a foreigner? Nigeria’s foreign minister is the chief Ambassador of Nigeria and should dress appropriately and accordingly. My two cents!
Reactions: why are you wearing Hausa cloth, not Delta’s
Many people supported him. Let’s have a look at some of the comments
@irenejob: Why is that necessary?
We need to learn to think NIGERIA FIRST.
At the end of the day, we are first Nigerians before our individual ethnicity or tribe.
Our unique cultures and diversity should be a plus to the Nigerian brand and not a tool for division or discrimination.
@Ebukaikeakor : But you hardly wear your own Native attire, are u not from Delta State?
Each time you are always on Hausa attire, you are only lobbying for something on selfish interests.
If you feel you are representing Nigeria 🇳🇬 with your attire, try dey switch btw the various ethnic groups
@Tola : @renoomokri on this you win my heart. We are Africans let us showcase ourselves to the world. That our selling point!!
@kazuum : You’re right we need to promote our culture, all public officials should emulate this.
