The African Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) recently released the nominations list for its 9th edition, and fans of fast-rising Nigerian movie talent, Kunle Remi, have expressed their dissatisfaction that the actor did not receive any nominations.
Despite making marvellous appearances in some of the movies nominated, including Ijakumo and Anikulapo, in which he starred, Kunle was not recognised for his outstanding performances.
The AMVCA 2023 nominee list was announced on Sunday by Bisola Aiyeola and Adjetey Anang, both TV stars.

However, Kunle’s absence from the list was noticeable and unexpected, given his sterling performance as ‘Saro’ in the movie ‘Anikulapo‘, which received 16 nominations.
Bimbo Ademoye was nominated
‘Anikulapo‘ was directed and co-produced by Kunle Afolayan and starred notable actors, including Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Taiwo Hassan, Yinka Quadri, and Eyiyemi Afolayan, among others.
While Kunle’s co-stars received nominations for various categories, including Best Actress in a Drama, Movie or TV Series, and Best Supporting Actor/Actress, he was conspicuously left out.
Since the announcement of the nominations, fans of Kunle Remi and the movie ‘Anikulapo‘ have criticised the AMVCA for what they describe as a deliberate exclusion of the talented actor.
Reactions: Arolake at work
Many took to Twitter to share their grievances and express their dissatisfaction, while some questioned the selection process of the awards. Ikejabird.com collated some of the reactions, see them below:
@DELLYCOOL_: He wasn’t nominated, how???
@pelumiemmanuel2: Arolake at work😂😂
@aiceH2O: Corruption is everywhere in Nigeria, how did ini edo bag 10 nominations and kunle remi was snubbed, I don’t see anything special that she did.
@Usmanashafe: If a movie got nominated for Overall Best movie, it means the lead actor of the movie did something special. Kunle Remi’s snub is definitely a punishment for something else totally different from acting. Cos his acting in Anikulapo was in fact worthy of Oscar
@oluwatitofolabi: I feel people should demand why he was omitted. I think Anikulapo was Kunle Remi at his very best.
@WAWPODCAST1: Anikulapo sweeping nominations and the male lead Kunle Remi is snubbed? God abeg! #AMVCA9
@directordiji: Kunle Remi gave one of the best performances in Nollywood last year. Still surprised he didn’t get nominated for BEST ACTOR. Still one of the best tho ❤️
